The Anatomy of the Good Gene #4
Installment #4 - Initial Writing

With my characters developed, my plot line mostly completed and an empty page number one in front of me, it was time to start writing the actual story. It was the fall of 2022. I'd decided to dedicate three to six hours a day to writing. This time would include the needed research I'd be doing as well.
Being a novice writer with virtually no experience, I had no idea how exhausting the creative process would be. If I recall correctly, during those first couple of weeks, my writer's fatigue set in between two and three hours. I remember the elation finishing just one page of writing.
My respect for authors, who'd actually completed a novel, began to rise dramatically. It seemed an ominous task. I had the time and the story swirling around in my head, so I pressed on. :-) I'd also decided to try and keep the chapters between eight and ten pages. I myself enjoy reading books with chapters about that length. I'm a slow reader, so shorter chapters always feel more manageable to me when I'm reading.
I'll pick up the next phase in my next blog post... stay tuned and have a great day - Dave
